I went to pick up my mom so we could have dinner and start our Christmas plans at my place, and she brought a dish with her and told my 7 year old son to put it in the backseat. While he was trying to place it carefully, it slipped right out of his hands. Moments later he ran over to me upset, saying it spilled, and when I opened the car door the container was flipped over, emptied, and spread all across the backseat.
I put the responsibility on my mom for asking a child that young to handle a full dish inside a car. That one choice turned a small mistake into a mess, shifted the mood instantly, and sent the whole night in the wrong direction. She didnāt even come with us to celebrate Christmas in the end, and Iām still wondering what I was supposed to do there, stay quiet and pretend none of it happened?
