Nobody even pretended to reach for a wallet, just sat there comfortable letting it land on me like I owe them something. I paid it because I’m not about to argue in public, but that was the reminder I needed why I keep my distance from them in the first place.

Family or not, I’m not carrying grown adults financially just because I’m doing better. Money stays with people who earn it, and honestly I don’t need broke energy anywhere near what I’m building.
