In June 2023, @yawdmontweet, a Twitter user from Jamaica, posed a puzzling question: “What’s the closest time to midnight?” Options included 11:55 a.m., 12:06 a.m., 11:50 a.m., and 12:03 a.m.

The math question attracted over 1.4 million views, sparking varied interpretations and answers. Users creatively considered the phrase “closest time to,” leading to divergent viewpoints.

Many favored option “D,” 12:03 a.m., as the closest time to midnight, while others saw ambiguity in the phrasing, favoring option “A,” 11:55 a.m.

 

Creative interpretations emerged, including associating options with the word “midnight,” with some selecting option “A” for its proximity to the word.

Some turned to AI for a solution, with ChatGPT suggesting option “D,” 12:03 a.m., as the closest time.
