Situation: A 13-Year-Old Demanding \u201cIndependence\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Heidi Johnson\u2019s son,\u00a0Aaron (13)<\/strong>, was in a difficult adolescent phase\u2014arguing, lashing out, and refusing rules<\/strong>. In one confrontation, he insisted he shouldn\u2019t have to follow her boundaries and claimed he should be independent.<\/p>\n

So Johnson chose a response that was\u00a0strict, structured, and intentionally realistic<\/strong>: she wrote a note that reframed their relationship as if they were\u00a0roommates<\/strong>, not parent and child.<\/p>\n
