    It\u2019s truly shocking how cruel some people can be to dogs. These innocent animals too often endure senseless pain and suffering.<\/p>\n

    That was the case for Buddy, a \u201chappy and carefree dog\u201d who was the victim of a horrible attack in which his face was severely burned. But thankfully, he has since made a miraculous recovery, thanks to kind veterinarians.<\/p>\n

    In April 2021, the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi reported that Buddy was set on fire. He was found with his face completely scorched and charred black, with an extension cord wrapped around his neck.<\/p>\n

    According to WTVA, a child later confessed to setting Buddy on fire, but because he was younger than 12, he couldn\u2019t be prosecuted.<\/p>\n

    **A Long Road to Recovery**<\/p>\n

    Buddy received medical treatment from Mississippi State University\u2019s College of Veterinary Medicine. Despite the shocking injury, doctors believed his eyes were still intact, though his eyelids would need surgical repair.<\/p>\n

    \u201cBuddy\u2019s vital signs are good but, as with any burn patient, this is very much the bottom of a tall mountain to be climbed,\u201d said Dr. Elizabeth Swanson. \u201cWe are keeping him comfortable, changing his bandages, and managing any problems as they arise.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Through it all, Buddy kept a good spirit. He underwent skin grafts and slowly healed. \u201cHe continues to move forward daily,\u201d the Humane Society wrote. \u201cNever once disappointing his doctors.\u201d<\/p>\n

    **A Breakthrough Moment**<\/p>\n

    On August 7, the rescue announced a \u201chuge turning point\u201d\u2014for the first time in over three months, Buddy\u2019s bandages were removed without heavy sedation, and he could actually see.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIn answer to your thousands of prayers, YES, Buddy can still see,\u201d the Humane Society wrote.<\/p>\n

    \u201cBuddy\u2019s whole personality has changed since seeing the light of day,\u201d said director Sandy Williams. \u201cHe is happy and playful and walking the halls with a great big ball in his mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

    **Looking Forward**<\/p>\n

    While Buddy will have special needs\u2014including sunscreen, eye drops, and limited sun exposure\u2014he\u2019s returned to his joyful self.<\/p>\n
